Air Tool FAQs

The size of compressor you need depends on the air consumption (CFM or L/min flow) of your chosen air tool versus the air flow your compressor can produce. You’ll also want to check the compressor’s maximum FAD (Free Air Delivered), which is the maximum air flow rate at output pressure.

Most small hobby-grade compressors allow you to adjust output pressure up to around 8 bar (120 psi). For tasks like tyre inflation, larger 3HP direct drive or belt drive compressors can generate pressures up to 10 bar (160 psi).

However, it’s usually best to regulate pressure down to around 6 bar (90 psi) for most air tools. Increasing pressure won’t boost performance - in fact, it can shorten tool life and won’t improve airflow efficiency.

Most air tools need a few drops of specially formulated air tool oil regularly to stay in top condition. Avoid using other types of light oil, as they can damage internal parts. If in doubt, just ask us - we’re happy to help.

This depends on the tool type and power. Generally, most air tools run efficiently on an 8mm (5/16") air hose.

  • Smaller tools (like nail guns) may only need a 7mm (1/4") hose.
  • Powerful impact wrenches might require a 10mm (3/8") hose.

Always check your tool’s instruction sheet for the recommended hose bore. And if you’re unsure, don’t hesitate to ask us - even if you didn’t buy the tool from us, we’re happy to help.

Generally, yes. Air tools often deliver more torque and consistent power compared to electric models, making them a top choice for heavy-duty or continuous work.
